Breast Imaging Radiologist Opportunity Description

UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC), the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, is seeking an ABR-certified/eligible radiologist with fellowship training in Breast Imaging to join the nationally recognized Division of Breast Imaging in the Department of Radiology.

The Department of Radiology performs over 900,000 studies per year, across five hospitals and an outpatient imaging center in central Massachusetts. Current faculty include 65 fellowship-trained radiologists, all practicing in organ or modality-based divisions, including a 24/7/365 Emergency Radiology Division. The department trains five (5) residents per year (20 total), and nine (9) fellows.

Join a busy existing group of 10 breast imagers and one breast imaging fellow in a NAPBC approved Comprehensive Breast Center and ACR designated Centers of Excellence. The breast imaging case volume currently includes approximately 45,000 mammograms, 5,000 dedicated breast ultrasounds, 800 breast MRIs and 4,000 interventional procedures per year – a level of experience that no other hospital in central Massachusetts can match.

The environment is completely digital and includes 3T and 1.5T MRI suites, seven tomosynthesis units, eight non tomosynthesis units (all Hologic and plans to upgrade some of these units), six ultrasound suites (Philips IU 22, all these units are being updated to EPIQ Elite Diagnostic Ultrasound Systemin a phased manner), including an ABUS suite (GE Invenia 2.0), and an upright Affirm unit for 3D biopsies, and two prone LORADS tables. Our needle localizations at the main university campus are mostly wire free (Savi-Scout).All UMass radiology sites are fully integrated into the same PACS system (AGFA) and enterprise-wide EPIC EMR.

There are numerous research, clinical and resident/fellow teaching opportunities, including participation in NIH funded (R01) research. UMass is also a participating site for the TMIST trial, allowing for numerous opportunities for clinical and research collaboration within the fastest growing research institution in the United States.

UMass Memorial Health is the largest health care system in central Massachusetts and consistently ranks in the Top 10 percent of the nation’s medical schools. Living in the heart of central MA offers easy access to all the lifestyle benefits of New England including Boston, Cape Cod, and numerous other surrounding recreational areas. Many faculty members live in or close to downtown Boston and enjoy a hassle-free “Reverse” commute to Worcester.
