The president of a tech company in New York City, McDonald wrote a brutally honest op-ed in the\u00a0Wall Street Journal<\/em>\u00a0called “Sorry, College Grads, I Probably Won’t Hire You<\/a>.” He believes most college graduates don’t have the one skill that’s in high demand: computer programming.<\/p>\n

25 Things Every Young Professional Should Know by Age 25<\/p>\n

25.\u00a0It’s spelled “definitely,” not “definately.”<\/p>\n

24.\u00a0Read an apartment lease before you sign.\u00a0All<\/em>\u00a0of it.<\/p>\n

23. An Excel PivotTable will change your life.<\/p>\n

22.\u00a0A cover letter should add color and personality. It shouldn’t summarize your resume.<\/p>\n

21.\u00a0Everyone likes to receive praise, but the smartest young adults actively seek constructive criticism.<\/p>\n

20.\u00a0The days of a college syllabus are long gone. If you’re waiting for someone to give you direction, have a seat. You’ll be there a while.<\/p>\n

19.\u00a0Multi-tasking is great, but some moments require your undivided attention.<\/p>\n

18.\u00a0Take LinkedIn seriously.<\/p>\n

17.\u00a0Understand the pay-stub that accompanies your paycheck.<\/p>\n

9.\u00a0Bring a lunch to work. It’s healthier and cheaper than eating out.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0Don’t step into an interview room without research on the company and questions for the employer.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0Dropbox. Learn it and love it.<\/p>\n

6.\u00a0Treat interns with respect. They’ll provide you with management training and ease your workload.<\/p>\n

5.\u00a0To impress older business associates, ask about their own career path. You may also learn a thing or two.<\/p>\n

4. Under-promise. Over-deliver.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0The less you write, the tighter the message. The less you talk, the stronger the speech.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0The only failure in your 20s is inaction. Everything else is trial and error.<\/p>\n
