Nobody\u00a0 wants to stay be \u201centry level\u201d forever. Everybody, once they get in the door,\u00a0 wants to work hard and prove that they are worth not just keeping around but\u00a0 moving up to positions of increased importance within the company. Here are a few ways to demonstrate your value to your company and\u00a0 get promoted.<\/p>\n

1. Fix Things That Need Fixing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Is your company constantly running into problems with its customer\u00a0 service or a specific product line? If you can come up with a way to fix that\u00a0 problem, you can pretty much write your own ticket\u2026at least for a while.<\/p>\n

You could, for example, come up with a training program for your\u00a0 customer service department or research secret shopping companies so that you\u00a0 can get a first-hand account of what\u2019s going wrong. You can learn how the\u00a0 product is made and find out if any advances have been made in its technology or\u00a0 makeup and then apply those advances toward a patch or fix that makes the\u00a0 product better.<\/p>\n

2. Help Build the Company\u2019s Reputation<\/strong><\/p>\n

Branding is everything these days and now, more than ever before,\u00a0 companies are run by people who understand that a good online reputation is\u00a0 vital to the business\u2019s success. Find a way to build the company\u2019s brand or\u00a0 (potentially even better), repair a damaged online reputation. How do you do\u00a0 this?<\/p>\n

If your company doesn\u2019t yet have a web presence, be the person who\u00a0 builds one. Find out what people are saying about the company by reading Brand.com reviews<\/a> and doing web\u00a0 searches. Put together a \u201cbig picture\u201d of how people see your company and then\u00a0 put together a realistic and workable plan for building the company\u2019s brand.<\/p>\n

3. Ask for More Responsibility<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you aren\u2019t sure how to prove yourself, simply asking a higher up\u00a0 for something extra to do is a great place to start. \u201cHow can I help you today\u201d is a great opener to that conversation. Or you can simply talk to your boss.\u00a0 Saying \u201cI feel that I\u2019m ready for more responsibility and am happy to take on\u00a0 whatever projects you can give me\u201d shows initiative.<\/p>\n

The key here is not waiting for someone to notice that you\u2019ve\u00a0 gotten good enough at your current job to be ready to take on more. Jumping in\u00a0 to fill holes and asking for more work shows the company that you take your job\u00a0 seriously. It will certainly make a better impression than sitting in your cube,\u00a0 bored, playing Candy Crush when you think your supervisor isn\u2019t looking.<\/p>\n

Remember, nobody is just going to hand you a promotion. You have to\u00a0 go after it. You have to pay attention to what\u2019s happening at work and you have\u00a0 to prove that you\u2019re a valuable asset to the company. These are just three of\u00a0 the ways that you can do that.<\/p>\n
