Seton names contractor for $295M teaching hospital<\/h2>\n

JE Dunn Construction has been selected as the general contracting firm for Seton Healthcare Family\u2019s $295 million teaching hospital at East 15th and Red River streets.<\/p>\n

The Kansas City-based company was selected from among 13 contracting companies that submitted qualifications for consideration. Of those, six provided proposals for the project and four finalists were interviewed. In a statement, Seton officials said they looked at safety record, quality of work, experience in large-scale, complex health care facilities, financial stability, reputation for completing on time and budget, and a commitment to working with diverse subcontractors.<\/p>\n

JE Dunn has been operating in Austin for more than a decade and has managed several high-profile projects in downtown Austin including the 360 Condominiums, 7th & Rio Apartments and IBC Bank Plaza. The company also built the new Topfer Theatre at Zach Scott Theatre and is currently renovating Seton Northwest Hospital<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The new 210-bed hospital<\/a> will be part of the Dell Medical School<\/a> complex and is scheduled to begin construction this year, with completion expected in 2017. Seton is fully funding the hospital\u2019s construction and operations with the help of $50 million in donations. A $35 million annual contribution from Travis County residents will pay for \u201csafety net\u201d care for the area\u2019s economically challenged population.<\/p>\n

Local officials expect the creation of the medical school complex will lead to 15,000 new jobs, in addition to construction work.<\/p>\n
