Let’s have some fun! What would it take to make you consider a relocation for a job? I have spoken to people all over the country who firmly state, “I will not move!” I completely understand. Moving is a hard thing to do. It is tough to consider, uprooting your family, especially children, to move. What is waiting for you there? What will everyone do? What good or bad will come from it? That is the great unknown!<\/p>\n
By the time I was 21, I had lived in, at least 27 different houses\/apartments, 3 states and 2 countries. Wow, what a whirlwind of places and people. I wasn’t even a child of military personnel. My father was a preacher. Each of these moves provided a new opportunity for both my father and our family. <\/p>\n
Did everyone always rise to the opportunity? Oh, don’t be silly. We were as dysfunctional as the next family. We tried and failed and succeeded. Many times we didn’t know we had succeeded until many years later. We didn’t know how our relationships had impacted others, either positively or negatively. As a matter of fact, we still don’t know. Time isn’t over yet. <\/p>\n
Why do I ask such a question? I ask, purely out of curiosity. As I look on society, I notice there are a lot of people moving and a lot of people who don\u2019t want to or don\u2019t know if they should. I live in a city that had around 16,000 people in it, when I moved there in 1998. It now has almost 200,000 people. Business have come and erected new buildings and brought new jobs. At the same time, others have closed and lost jobs. A new day has come and gone and a new one has come again.<\/p>\n
Some will move because the company is moving. Some will move to find a better place to raise their children. Some move to be close to family. Some move to start over. Some move to find work. Some will move because of the adventure. Some cannot move due to family. Some cannot move due to divorce. Some cannot move due to fear of the unknown. Still, some stay and adapt and flourish as the area around them changes. <\/p>\n
Again, why ask the question? What would make you decide to move? I ask, because someday, someone like me might call and say, \u201cI have an opportunity that I would like you to consider\u2026It may require relocation.\u201d If you have not thought about whether or not you might be willing to move, you might want to consider it now. Because, if you wait to consider it until it is \u201ccrunch\u201d time, you may delay and miss that great moment in your life that could, maybe, possibly, almost change your career, your life and your future. You don\u2019t have to take the job. But, are you willing to listen and consider, \u201cMoving might open a whole new world!\u201d<\/p>\n
