{"id":3737,"date":"2016-06-08T13:03:46","date_gmt":"2016-06-08T18:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kbicblog.com\/blog\/pharmacy\/?p=3737"},"modified":"2022-05-03T15:54:46","modified_gmt":"2022-05-03T20:54:46","slug":"taking-advantage-of-pharmacy-job-market-uncertainty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kbicblog.com\/pharmacy\/candidate-resources\/taking-advantage-of-pharmacy-job-market-uncertainty\/","title":{"rendered":"Taking Advantage of Pharmacy Job Market Uncertainty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If there is any topic that I talk a lot\u00a0about with pharmacy students and pharmacy professionals it would have to be the present <em>uncertainty<\/em> that exists within the current job market for pharmacists. \u00a0Some pharmacists may be shielded from this reality. \u00a0But for those who are presently unemployed, underemployed or just looking to find a new career path \u2013 job market uncertainties abound. \u00a0Many pharmacists feel trapped in an unhappy job or find they are worried about paying off student loans if they can\u2019t find the right position\u00a0soon enough. \u00a0Frankly, for some pharmacists the outlook appears rather gloomy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kbicblog.com\/blog\/pharmacy\/files\/2016\/06\/Taking-Advantage-of-Pharmacy-Job-Market-Uncertainty.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-3739\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-3739 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/kbicblog.com\/blog\/pharmacy\/files\/2016\/06\/Taking-Advantage-of-Pharmacy-Job-Market-Uncertainty-300x192.jpg\" alt=\"Taking Advantage of Pharmacy Job Market Uncertainty\" width=\"300\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kbicblog.com\/pharmacy\/files\/2016\/06\/Taking-Advantage-of-Pharmacy-Job-Market-Uncertainty-300x192.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kbicblog.com\/pharmacy\/files\/2016\/06\/Taking-Advantage-of-Pharmacy-Job-Market-Uncertainty.jpg 645w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>But could there be a silver lining to this situation? \u00a0Personally, I think there is. \u00a0What I have observed going on all around me are many pharmacists taking control of their own careers in ways that they never would have before. \u00a0As the saying goes, the cream always rises to the top. \u00a0Pharmacists, faced with career uncertainty and job saturation, have taken steps to advance their careers and utilize their skills to reach new levels of professional satisfaction.<\/p>\n<p><em>But don\u2019t just take my word for it. \u00a0<\/em>Because part of what I love doing is to connect pharmacists with great resources to manage their careers, I reached out to a friend and career specialist, Lisa. \u00a0Lisa isn\u2019t a pharmacist. \u00a0Rather, <em>she is someone who has worked for many years behind the scenes helping pharmacists get where they want with their careers and goals<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I asked Lisa about the current job market and the challenges facing pharmacists today. \u00a0Here is what she said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe consolidations in the retail pharmacy market is enough to make your head spin! If you currently work at Rite Aid, Target, Walgreens, or CVS, you are feeling uneasy about what the future may bring. Consolidations and sweeping policy changes can keep you awake at night!<\/p>\n<p>This article is meant to empower you to turn that uncertainty to your advantage by taking control of as many aspects of your career as you can.<\/p>\n<h2>Four Ways to Take Control of Your Career:<\/h2>\n<p>1. \u00a0Make sure you update your continuing education to obtain the latest skills and certifications that will set you apart. By upgrading your skill sets and updating your continuing education, you can ensure that you are prepared to advise your patients\/customers on the latest medical trends, emerging treatments, and the newest drug safety protocol to proactively reduce the occurrence of life-threatening medical conditions.<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0Recreate your CV\u00a0and\/or career portfolio by working with a pharmacy expert who knows how to communicate your skills and accomplishments AND can advise you about the latest employment trends in pharmacy.
