Vice President of Pharmacy Operations Position Details
Maxor National Pharmacy Services is seeking a highly accomplished, dynamic individual to lead the strategic direction of pharmacy services for JPS Health Network, a nationally ranked health system with more than 40 community-based clinics, including a 578-bed county hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center in Fort Worth, TX. In this integrated model, the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations will direct the pharmacy practice and is responsible for the strategic direction and implementation of system-wide pharmacy services across the enterprise.

JPS HEALTH NETWORK (primary work location): The Tarrant County Hospital District, known as JPS Health Network, is a $950 million, tax-supported health care system for Tarrant County in North Texas. Licensed for 578 beds, the network includes an acute care hospital and more than 40 community-based clinics, including 19 school-based clinics. John Peter Smith Hospital is home to Tarrant County’s first and only Level 1 Trauma Center, its only psychiatric emergency services site, and has the largest hospital-based family medicine residency program in the nation. JPS provides adult inpatient care at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, and offers comprehensive services including pharmacy, primary care, and behavioral health services throughout Tarrant County.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Vice President of Pharmacy Operations provides visible, effective, and high-impact leadership to a network of inpatient and outpatient pharmacies across the JPS delivery network. Position leads/collaborates with leaders of multi-site pharmacy system and partners closely with executive management across JPS. This critical leadership position will engage both with Maxor leaders and JPS Health system leadership as part of planning and executing comprehensive pharmacy operations. Additionally, the Vice President of Pharmacy Operations will have overall responsibility for the operational management of the outpatient and inpatient pharmacies, cancer center pharmacy, surgical center pharmacy, and correctional medication management.
REPORTS TO: Dual – Chief Pharmacy Officer and dotted-line to JPS VP Network Operations
SUPERVISES: Directly leads inpatient & outpatient Directors, Managers, Technicians
Essential Functions:
- Provide general direction and leadership for all aspects of pharmacy functions in order to maintain efficient and profitable operations, high customer service and exceptional patient care. Identifies and implements operational efficiencies and standardization.
- Coordinate planning, development, and problem solving with regard to delivery of outpatient, specialty, infusion, and inpatient pharmacy operational services.
- Develop and mentor staff by providing career coaching; motivate individually and as a group; understand and support diversity; and establish an effective team.
- Accountable for financial performance inclusive of the following: revenue, growth, patient acquisition and retention, margin, actual versus budget.
- Prepare various reports and maintain records or supervise the maintenance of records as required or requested.
- Set Goals and objectives for Pharmacy departments.
- Provide support for the Directors of Inpatient and Outpatient Pharmacy.
- Serve as a member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team to assist with strategic planning and problem resolution.
- Monitor and report on achievement of committed action plans to senior management.
- Coordinate and execute cost saving and quality initiatives surrounding medication use.
- Economic evaluation of medications currently used or proposed for use.
- Maximize operational efficiencies in the pharmacies.
- Ensure the implementation and maintenance of inventory control programs.
- Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of policies and programs that support patient satisfaction, safety, employee engagement and efficiency.
- Participate in planning and preparation efforts for Joint Commission.
- Assure that all pharmacies maintain compliance with State Board of Pharmacy rules and regulations and Federal (DEA & HIPAA) regulations.
- Coordinate information systems planning and implementation with JPS and Maxor.
- Oversee the correctional medication management processes.
- Participate in the facilities planning process for new and remodeled pharmacies.
- Maintain regular attendance in accordance with established policies.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
- Promptly report any allegations of impropriety to the Compliance Department.
- Comply with Maxor’s Ethical Business Conduct policy and Maxor’s Compliance Program.
- Remain free from exclusion under the OIG and SAMS Medicare/Medicaid lists.
- Complete required training and ensure the departmental staff training is completed as required.
- Must be able to drive success in a stressful environment.
- Ensure staff is informed of product upgrades or enhancements in a timely manner.
- Hire and train competent staff.
- On a biweekly basis, verify departmental timesheets for departmental employees ensuring the timesheets are accurate based on the work-schedule and necessary corrections are done prior to Payroll submission.
- Develop and mentor departmental staff by providing career coaching; motivate departmental staff, individually and as a group; understand and support diversity; and establish an effective team.
- Conduct initial and annual performance evaluations.
- Promote teamwork; discipline staff when warranted.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- BS in Pharmacy and/or PharmD. Advanced degree (MS, MBA, or MSHA) preferred. Completion of pharmacy residency program desirable.
Experience:
- 10+ years spend progressively building a background in various departmental functions with extensive experience in managing outpatient, specialty, infusion, and inpatient pharmacies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to supervise and train staff, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
- Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures.
- Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
- Knowledge of budgeting, cost estimating, and fiscal management principles and procedures.
- Knowledge of Software: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships with medical, nursing, and professional staff.
- Demonstrated ability in efficiently and effectively managing human, material, capital, and financial resources.
- Demonstrated success in meeting financial goals.
- Leadership, coaching, and teambuilding skills to strengthen and cultivate relationships.
- Knowledge of relevant accreditation and certification requirements.
- Must be able to manage frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload.
