Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Education
Opportunity Description

A unique opportunity to transform medical education in Northern Colorado as the Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Education of the University of Northern Colorado College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNC COM), a new college at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) located in Greeley, CO. Designated an “All-American City,” Greeley is Ranked Top 15 Happiest Cities in the United States.

The University of Northern Colorado was founded as a Normal School in 1889 to meet the need for educators in Greeley and Northern Colorado. 134 years later, UNC finds itself well-positioned to meet another distinct set of needs in the community and region. The proposed UNC COM would become the third medical college in Colorado and help the state alleviate its shortage of physicians (only 35% of Colorado’s need for physicians is currently being met), particularly in rural and underserved communities.

To help meet this critical challenge, the proposed UNC COM is pleased to launch a national search for its Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Education to assist the Founding Dean in leading this not-for-profit enterprise through development, accreditation, and on to the goal of becoming a world-class center of learning and medical education. As a key part of the UNC COM leadership team, the Associate Dean will position the UNC COM to meet the workforce needs of the state and region, positively contributing to the strength, health, and prosperity of Greeley, Weld County, and the state.

As a doctoral research university, UNC fosters an engaging, enriching educational experience that prepares graduates for successful careers that positively impact the communities in which they live. UNC is currently in Applicant Status with the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation and will proceed to Candidate Status in June 2024. The initial class of students will matriculate in fall 2026. With only 41 accredited colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States—only six of which are at public universities—UNC COM would be joining a select group of D.O. colleges that would attract students from not just Colorado and the region, but across the country. The Associate Dean is expected to be hired in spring 2024 and must be under contract prior to June 1, 2024.
