Division Chief of Breast Imaging Opportunity Description

UMass Memorial Medical Center, the top-ranked Best Hospital and clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, is seeking a visionary leader for the Section Chief of Breast ImagingUnder the leadership of the Chair of Radiology, Dr. Max Rosen, the Department of Radiology is comprised of 62 faculty, 20 residents, 9 fellows and 15 PhD’s, performs approximately 750,000 imaging studies per year across multiple sites in central Massachusetts. The department’s IT platform is fully integrated with a new AGFA PACS and enterprise wide EPIC EMR.

There are several positives about the Chief of Breast Imaging opportunity that make it unique in the marketplace today:

  • 10 breast imagers, and one breast imaging fellow, in a NAPBC approved Comprehensive Breast Center, and ACR designated centers of excellence (academic and community sites).
  • Currently performs diagnostic studies and breast intervention procedures at 4 different sites in central MA.
  • The Breast Imaging section currently provides clinical services to the academic facility of the UMass Chan Medical School, two community hospitals at Marlborough and Leominster and other outreach satellite locations.
  • There are plans to expand our services to other community sites.
  • Currently 45,000 mammograms, 5,000 dedicated breast ultrasounds, 800 breast MRIs and 4,000 interventional procedures are performed annually.
  • The environment is completely digital and includes 3T and 1.5T MRI suites, seven tomosynthesis units, eight non tomosynthesis units (all Hologic and plans to upgrade some of these units), six ultrasound suites (Philips IU 22, all these units are being updated to EPIQ Elite Diagnostic Ultrasound System in a phased manner), including an ABUS suite (GE Invenia 2.0), and an upright Affirm unit for 3D biopsies and two prone LORADS tables.
  • Our needle localizations at the main university campus are mostly wire free (Savi-Scout).

There is numerous research, clinical and resident/fellow teaching opportunities, including participation in NIH funded (R01) research. UMass is also a participating site for the TMIST trial.

Qualifications for the Position:

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) or foreign equivalent is required.
  • Fellowship training in breast imaging or the equivalent is required.
  • American Board of Radiology Certified with an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state.
  • Academic rank is anticipated to be at Associate Professor level or higher.
