Emergency Radiology Physician Opportunity Description

The Department of Radiology at UMass Memorial Medical Center — the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School and the largest health care system in Central Massachusetts — is seeking an ABR-certified/eligible Emergency Radiologist (Overnight) to join an existing group of 15 Emergency Radiologists in Worcester, MA. Candidates should have a strong background in general radiology, including neuroradiology and body imaging. UMass Memorial is home to the largest ED in the region and covers well over one million lives and is a Level 1 Trauma Center with 250,000 ED visits per year.

Opportunity Highlights:

  • The Division of Emergency Radiology is expanding and seeks an exceptional radiologist for a full-time faculty position. This is a 1:3 (one week on and three weeks off) onsite position.
  • Overnight shift: 11 pm to 7 am. Overlap coverage until 1:00 am.
  • ED Radiologists work at the primary practice location, the academic medical center in Worcester, along with one (1) resident and/or one (1) Emergency Radiology fellow, and remotely covers several other hospitals.
  • Additional opportunities for internal moonlighting within the department are available if desired.
  • Radiology faculty have academic appointments at UMass Chan Medical School, with ample opportunity for clinical and/or basic science research. Extensive opportunities for professional development.

ED Radiology Program Highlights:

  • The Division of Emergency Radiology at UMass services over 250,000 patients per year across five emergency departments in Central Massachusetts, including the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center and Advanced Comprehensive Stroke Center.
  • State-of-the-art imaging equipment includes: 128-detector CT, 1.5T MR scanner, ultrasound, digital radiography, and nuclear medicine. All examinations will be interpreted using AGFA PACS, PowerScribe 360, TeraRecon post-processing software, and EPIC EHR. AI solutions are integrated seamlessly into routine workflow.
  • Access to a 365/24/7 Emergency Department with multiple imaging modalities, an onsite attending ED Radiologist available for interpretation and consultative services 24/7.
  • Opportunities to participate in NIH funded (R01) research. UMass is also a participating site for the TMIST trial.

Professional Qualifications:

Emergency Radiology Faculty must possess:

  • Faculty candidates must hold an MD or equivalent degree, fellowship trained and be either BE/BC by the ABR and have medical licensure or eligibility in Massachusetts.
  • Fellowship training in Emergency/Trauma Imaging is preferred, but radiologists with a strong interest in the practice of Emergency imaging and hold training in other subspecialty areas such as Neuro, Body, or Chest Imaging will be favorably considered.
  • Qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Radiology at the level of Assistant, Associate Professor or Professor and an appointment to the Medical Staff at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
