Head & Neck Oncologist Description

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing medical knowledge and clinical practice through scholarly research, physician education, and high-quality patient care. 

The Division of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is recruiting for a Head and Neck Cancer clinical faculty member at the level of Assistant Professor or above, in the Health Sciences Clinical Series. Candidates will be supported by a strong organization with visionary leadership dedicated to advancing the care of the cancer patient. Position can involve clinical and academic activities at either or both UC Irvine Medical Center and the VA Long Beach Medical Center. In addition to an expanding multidisciplinary team, UCI has plans for a new hospital that will have a focus on hematology and oncology coming soon to our main campus.

The position will be approximately 60% clinical time and 40% fully protected academic time. The Division seeks individuals who want to focus on specific tumor groups as well as who have interest in bringing new and innovative treatments to trial and beyond.

The Division of Hematology/Oncology at UCI is dedicated to education, research and state-of-the-art care of patients with blood diseases and cancer. UCI is home to one of 50 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers and holds a NIH Clinical Translational Science Award.

The Position:
Candidate Responsibilities:

  • Candidates are expected to lead and conduct clinical and/or translational research within a specific area of focus.
  • Candidates will report to either Edward Nelson, Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology; Richard Van Etten, Director of the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center; and/or Dr. Susan O’Brien, Associate Director for Clinical Sciences, Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Professional Qualifications: 

UCI is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute through their research, teaching and/or service to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

  • An M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree with active board certification or eligibility in adult Hematology and/or Medical Oncology.
  • Eligibility to obtain an active and unrestricted medical practice license to practice in the State of California.
  • Rank and academic track will be commensurate with candidate experience and credentials.
