Pharmacology Educator Opportunity Description

The Department of Medical Education at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, College of Medicine (COM) invites nominations and applications for the open rank position of Pharmacology Educator. This is a full-time, non-tenure track salaried faculty position with a comprehensive benefits package and an initial 3-year appointment that is renewable subject to satisfactory performance.

Primary responsibilities will include teaching didactic and small group/team-based learning exercises in the discipline of pharmacology as it relates to multiple diseases. Students are first- and second-year medical students, first-year Physician Assistant (PA) students, and students in other health profession colleges at UTHSC. For the MD program, it is expected that material taught in the first and second years will be reinforced and integrated, with more limited teaching responsibilities throughout all 4 years of the MD degree program.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Open Rank Pharmacology Educator reports directly to the Associate Dean for Medical Education and Chair of Medical Education, Dr. Michael Whitt, and will work closely with faculty in the Office of Medical Education at the UTHSC College of Medicine.

  • Teaching experience in clinically oriented pharmacology is preferred.
  • The candidate should be an enthusiastic educator with demonstrated ability to work productively, collegially, and effectively within a faculty-team environment.
  • This position includes opportunities to conduct scholarly activities related to educational programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral degree: M.D., D.O., Ph.D., or equivalent degree with a background in Pharmacology and be eligible for a faculty appointment at the level of an Assistant or Associate Professor.
  • Commitment to innovative approaches to medical education and learning.
  • Experience in teaching pharmacology.
  • A strong commitment to team-based work and collaboration in interdisciplinary settings.
  • Prior teaching experience in an LCME-accredited medical school or COCA-accredited osteopathic school would be considered extremely desirable, but not required.
