Meet Construction’s Rising Stars, Movers and Shakers of the Year

Approximately 180 million people work in construction worldwide. To celebrate just a small fraction of the talented and hardworking individuals in the building sector, last month, we launched a call for nominations for 40 Under 40: Construction Champions of 2018.

We’re excited to finally announce our 40 Under 40 list. While many accomplished and up and coming builders were nominated for the program, we believe our list is a glimpse into some of the finest talent emerging from leading construction firms and projects around the world. Read on to learn about some of the biggest disruptors and change makers in construction inspiring us all to build a better industry and world.

1. Matt Allen

Company: McKinstry
Job Title: Director of Construction Technology

As the Director of Construction Technology at one of the most progressive and largest contractors in the Pacific 

Northwest of the U.S., Matt has made an impact on implementing innovations on pilot projects with McKinstry. Initially, starting as an intern at the company, Matt’s vision and commitment to transforming productivity in the construction industry has well-earned him his progression from a project engineer to a project manager, to now leading technology deployment at the company.

2. Tanner Andregg

Company: Pogue Construction
Title: Superintendent

Andregg, TannerTanner is a forward-thinking superintendent for a Texas-based ENR Top 400 Contractor. Understanding the benefits and power of technology for himself and field teams, he has leveraged his previous experience and has been instrumental in implementing new technology at Pogue Construction.


3. Mike Benike

Company: Benike Construction
Title: Executive Vice President

Benike, MikeMike is a trusted leader in the construction community. His leadership as a professional under 40 has developed very quickly. He demonstrates leadership and integrity by example daily through clear communication, a passion for doing what it right, and delivering on promises. Mike is a self-proclaimed “green building enthusiast,” enjoys working on historic rehabilitation projects and promotes lean construction practices.

4. Jim Blair, CET, GSC

Company: Collaborative Structures Limited
Title: Director of Construction Operations, Partner

Blair, JimAs a Partner with the Ontario-based firm and Director of Construction Operations, Jim oversees the Project Management department executing all construction projects. At CSL, Jim has a proven history of managing teams to deliver institutional, commercial, industrial, municipal, heritage and high rise residential developments exceeding an annual revenue of $130 million. Jim is always looking for new ways to bring better and deeper relationships with his clients which include Maple Lodge Farms, Sofina Foods, Fusion Homes, Spring Mill Distillery, KGR Holdings, The Morgan Group, Stubbe’s Precast and the Province of Ontario, in addition to the countless Municipalities and Post Secondary education institutions CSL delivers for. As an active member of leading professional communities and associations within the industry, he has been instrumental in growing his company and attracting top talent.  

5. Leonard “Lenny” Coleman, PE, CCM

Company: Whitman, Requardt and Associates, LLP
Title: Associate

Lenny manages and oversees WRA’s CMI services in the Northern Virginia and Fredericksburg Regions. As the associate for construction management services in Northern Virginia, he manages a group of inspectors, construction managers, engineers and also technical specialists on a multitude of projects. Lenny has been a key player on complex and major transportation projects in the Washington D.C. Metro Area, including working closely with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
