Cardiothoracic Radiology Job Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of Kentucky (UK) College of Medicine seeks an exceptional full-time, ABR-certified/eligible Radiologist for a clinical faculty position in the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Radiology at the Albert B. Chandler Medical Center (UK HealthCare). The Cardiothoracic Radiologist will be at the Assistant Professor Level or higher and will join the five (5) existing faculty members within the Division.

UK HealthCare is consistently named the top hospital in Kentucky, and features a full complement of clinical services, including an active lung and heart transplant program. It is the only NCI-designated cancer center in the state, and is one of only 20 hospitals nationwide with Level I trauma certification for both adult and pediatric patients. 

The ideal candidate will have subspecialty training or significant work experience in cardiothoracic radiology. Experience interpreting both cardiac MRI and coronary CTA is preferred. Procedural skills are not required. The Cardiothoracic Radiologist will be able to participate in multidisciplinary conferences, including our thoracic oncology program and our interstitial lung disease program. You will have ample opportunity for teaching residents, fellows, and medical students. Additionally, the Division puts particular emphasis on collegiality and flexibility. You will have support to develop your career in your chosen direction. 

The UK Cardiovascular & Thoracic Radiology Division:

The Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Radiology is a group of dedicated cardiothoracic radiologists who specialize in all aspects of cardiac, vascular, and thoracic disorders. Thoracic disease expertise includes interstitial lung disease, pulmonary infections, thoracic malignancies, occupational lung disorders, and smoking related lung injuries. Cardiac and vascular disease expertise includes ischemic and nonischemic cardiomyopathies, pediatric and adult congenital heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, and noninvasive evaluation of thoracic and abdominal endoluminal graft repairs. The Division provides a full range of diagnostic examinations for UK HealthCare and its satellite centers, including inpatient and outpatient chest radiography, chest CT, cardiac CT and MR, and vascular CT and MR.

The cardiothoracic radiologists at the University of Kentucky are recognized experts in cardiothoracic and vascular imaging with an active consultation service and close working relationships with the clinical services of UK HealthCare including pulmonary and critical care medicine, thoracic and general oncology, thoracic surgery, radiation oncology, cardiology, general medicine, and infectious disease. The Division takes part in numerous multidisciplinary conferences ranging from thoracic oncology to pediatric congenital heart disease. The Division provides dedicated teaching to medical students, residents, and fellows. This position will not be expected to perform any IR procedures or interpret any cardiovascular imaging.

Professional Qualifications:

Education/Certifications/Licensure

  • MD or DO degree.
  • Current Board Certification or Eligibility in Diagnostic Radiology (ABR certified).
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Cardiothoracic Radiology Fellowship training program or have significant work experience in cardiothoracic radiology is required.
  • Unrestricted State of Kentucky Medical License (current or eligible) upon appointment and maintain throughout the term of the appointment.
  • Must be appropriately credentialed and accepted as a member of the active staff at the University Chandler and Good Samaritan Hospitals, Kentucky Clinic and other sites deemed necessary by the Chair of Radiology.

The successful Cardiothoracic Radiologist will be ABR certified or eligible by date of hire.
