Dean of Nursing Job Description

Collin College is seeking an experienced, innovative, and collaborative academic leader for the full-time position of Dean of Nursing. Located on the McKinney Campus in McKinney, Texas, this is an opportunity to help make a difference in the lives of others by maintaining a positive teaching, learning, and working environment for faculty, staff, and students.

The Dean of Nursing will lead the instructional programs in Nursing at Collin College. Create and manage budget for an academic division. Ensure compliance with college policies, THECB, SACSCOC, and programmatic accreditation agencies. Build relationships with community leaders both within and outside of the college to further the academic mission of the institution.

The Institution:

Collin College has had sustained growth over its 35-year history, but the last five years have been remarkable. Now serving more than 58,000 students and maintaining a reputation for academic excellence, it offers an unmatched combination of award-winning programs and state-of-the-art facilities. Collin College has the lowest tuition in-district of any of the 50 community college districts in the state, and the second-lowest tax-rate.

Over the last two years, Collin College has added 22 new degree and certificate programs (19 approved with three pending).

The college has added six new off-campus instructional sites that include one new dual credit site, one new site to train police and firefighter recruits as well as emergency medical technicians for a local community (the Public Safety Training Center), plus four new campus sites. Collectively, the new campuses comprise nearly 1,000,000 square feet – a 59% increase.

Most significantly, the college has successfully pursued a level change from an associate degree-granting institution to a baccalaureate degree-granting institution, offering Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity degrees, with a third baccalaureate degree under development.

Collin College recently adopted and launched its new five-year Master and Strategic Plans for 2020-2025 with priorities and goals that are designed to help accomplish the goals outlined in the State of Texas 60x30TX Strategic Higher Education Plan.

The college holds the distinction of being a National Center of Excellence in Nursing Education. Collin College was the first in the state to win the designation when NLN awarded it to the college originally in 2011. The college’s Center of Excellence designation was renewed in 2015 and again in 2020. It’s now one of just four in Texas and remains the only community college in the state with the designation.
