Fun Fact Friday: March 10th 2017-March Madness!

Each spring the teams from the Division I level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), have a single elimination tournament to determine the national championship. Known informally as March Madness, the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament was created in 1939 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches, and was the idea of Ohio State University coach Harold Olsen.

Currently featuring 68 college basketball teams, the first tournament involved only 8 schools. The tournament began on March 17 and ended with the championship game on March 27 on Northwestern University’s campus in Evanston, Illinois. Oregon, coached by Howard Hobson, won the national title with a 46–33 victory in the final game over Ohio State, coached by Harold Olsen. Jimmy Hull of Ohio State was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.
